TEHRAN – The Iranian parliament on Monday voted for the establishment of the Economic Jihad Committee to pave the way for the implementation of the Supreme Leader’s directives stated in his Noruz message.

In a Noruz (Persian New Year) message to the Iranian nation Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei called the Iranian calendar year of 1390, which started on March 21, the “Year of Economic Jihad.”
Of the 191 votes cast, 113 MPs voted in favor, 55 voted against, and 23 abstained, and thereby the proposal for the establishment of the Economic Jihad Committee signed by 50 MPs was approved.
